Singapore to Host ATF 2027 TRAVEX as ASEAN Tourism Marks 60 Years
Singapore is set to host the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2027 from 18 to 22 January 2027, bringing together tourism stakeholders from across Southeast Asia and international markets to explore opportunities for regional cooperation, destination promotion and business development.
A major component of the forum, the ASEAN Travel Exchange (TRAVEX), will take place on 20 and 21 January at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre. The event will provide a business platform for tourism buyers and sellers to connect, showcase travel products and services, and explore potential partnerships.
The official theme of ATF 2027 is "Transforming Tourism, Empowering Tomorrow." The event is particularly significant as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of ASEAN.
A Regional Platform for Tourism Cooperation
The ASEAN Tourism Forum is a regional initiative designed to promote Southeast Asia as a diverse and competitive tourism destination. It brings together tourism authorities, travel companies, hotels, tour operators, airlines, destination management companies and media representatives.
TRAVEX serves as the forum's tourism business exchange platform, facilitating meetings between buyers and sellers of tourism-related products and services. Through pre-scheduled business appointments, participants can explore new destinations, establish commercial relationships and discuss opportunities for cooperation across regional markets.
The platform also enables tourism businesses to present their offerings to international buyers and industry professionals.
Why ATF 2027 Matters
The 2027 edition carries added significance as ASEAN marks six decades of regional partnership. Under its theme, the forum aims to encourage discussions on the transformation of tourism and the development of a more sustainable, innovative and integrated regional tourism sector.
For participating destinations, international tourism events offer opportunities to highlight natural attractions, cultural heritage, accommodation facilities, travel experiences and emerging tourism products. They can also help tourism businesses identify new markets and build relationships with potential partners.
The event's broader regional focus makes it relevant to tourism authorities and businesses seeking to strengthen Southeast Asia's position in the international travel market.
Business Meetings and Tourism Media Briefings
According to the published programme, TRAVEX will feature multiple business appointment sessions on 20 and 21 January. Media briefings by National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) from ASEAN member states are also scheduled, offering opportunities to learn about tourism developments, destination strategies and new products.
The programme also includes the ATF Tourism Ministers Press Conference on 22 January, alongside registration, networking and other official activities. Participants should consult the official website for any programme updates.
Opportunities for International Media
For journalists, editors, writers and specialist travel publications, ATF 2027 TRAVEX offers an opportunity to gather first-hand information, engage with tourism authorities and examine developments shaping the regional travel industry.
Under the Semi-Hosted Media Programme, successful applicants may receive accommodation for up to four nights, local ground transportation between designated hotels and the exhibition venue, access to the media centre, entry to selected networking events, and opportunities to participate in complimentary pre- and post-event tours, subject to the programme's terms and availability. Selection is subject to approval by the organisers.
ATF Singapore
Media deliverables include attending at least seven media briefings by ASEAN member states, attending the Tourism Ministers Press Conference, publishing two pre-event coverages and one post-event coverage, and publishing at least five social media posts related to ATF 2027. Coverage of relevant pre- and post-event tours is also required where applicable.

The organisers have separately clarified by email that airfare between Dhaka and Singapore is not covered under the Semi-Hosted Media Programme. Participants must pay for their own flights, while accommodation will be hosted. Details of local ground transportation will be shared later.
What Could This Mean for Bangladesh?
Bangladesh has a range of tourism assets that could appeal to international travellers, including the Sundarbans, Cox's Bazar, the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the tea gardens of Sylhet, river-based experiences, archaeological sites and diverse cultural traditions.
Participation in international tourism forums can potentially help destinations build relationships with tour operators, travel companies, tourism authorities and specialist media. If Bangladeshi tourism authorities or businesses participate in ATF 2027, the event could provide a platform to explore regional partnerships and promote the country's tourism offerings.
However, Bangladesh's participation, any specific delegation and prospective business agreements should be confirmed through official sources before being reported as established facts.
Looking Ahead
Tourism development involves more than increasing visitor numbers. Environmental protection, community participation, employment, infrastructure, technology and the distribution of economic benefits are also important considerations.
ATF 2027 will bring regional tourism stakeholders together to discuss the future of the industry and strengthen connections across Southeast Asia. For Bangladesh, the forum offers a useful opportunity to observe regional tourism strategies, learn from industry developments and explore ways to improve its own international tourism visibility.
